Backlog 2025 June - Game 2: Crisis Core Reunion Final Fantasy VII

Crisis Core: FF VII Reunion - PlayStation 5

Completed June 19th

Crisis Core Reunion is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII and is an HD Remaster of the original Crisis Core that was originally released on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld console.

For a number years I have wanted a port of the original on current consoles as I prefer games on the big screen rather than a small handheld screen.

I have played a little of the original PSP version so I have an idea of how the game plays, but now that the game is available on non handheld consoles I can finally give the title a fair attempt on the big screen.

Currently I am writing this after a brief playthrough of the first chapter and so far I am enjoying the game.

*Update*

After further progress of the game I have decided to retire the game and move on. There is something that just does not click with me.  Maybe because the game was originally designed for handhelds and has a rather byte sized feel to the mission structure or maybe I am just bad at the combat are the reasons I feel like retiring the game.

I do not dislike the game, but I do not love it either and I know the story and how the game ends, so I just do not feel compelled to continue with the game.

Still, I am glad I have the game in my collection and it is there should I decide to continue it one day.

*Further update*

I decided to play a little more just to give the game one more chance and it is starting to click now and I am finding my self enjoying the game more now - so it looks like, for now, I will continue with Crisis Core. Maybe the last time I played it I was not in the right frame of mind to enjoy the title.

*Final update*

Yeah, maybe I was just having a bad day when I thought about retiring the game - as having now completed the game I can say it was a fantastic experience and I am glad it had a remastered update.  I always wanted to experience the game on a TV, as I think having a grand experience like Crisis Core stuck on a little had held screen would have been rather unfortunate.
