Terminator 2D: No Fate - PS5

Completed 20th December

I barely ever pre order games, but when I saw a trailer for Terminator 2D No Fate I felt I had to play it as soon as possible as it just looked so good and I had a lot of confidence in the developer as they created the excellent side scrolling beat em up Final Vendetta. Another reason I pre ordered the game was because as it is an old school type of game I knew it would not be too long so I could play inbetween other longer games I have still to play.

I am not normally into old 2D run and gun games, because I honestly just find them to be rather repetitive and boring (also not to mention I am just completely bad at the genre). So I took a chance with Terminator 2D as I am a huge fan of Terminator 2 and I have enjoyed some of the developers past games.

When I first started playing the game after a few levels I regretted my purchase and was thinking how much credit I could receive for the game, but after I while I felt like I was starting to enjoy the game and ended up absolutely loving the game!

Story mode only took me around 1 hour to complete - which was to be expected with this type of Arcade game. There are some options in the game where you can make choices but you can only do this after playing the first playthrough. The first time you play the game it follows the structure of the movie pretty accurately. I played through the game a second time with different options and you are presented with a 'what if' type change in the story. The second time took me around 55 minutes to finish the game.

There is plenty replay value with various modes such as Boss Rush and a number of difficulty levels. It is very much a pick up and play sort of game where you can finish the game in under an hour but there is opportunity to learn the mechanics of the game and improve.

I did not enjoy No Fate as much as another Terminator game I played this year (Terminator: Resistance), but they are both very different types of games. Terminator Resistance was a longer game and was a new story in the franchise which felt that it could have been a different Terminator 3 movie whereas Terminator No Fate felt like a Megadrive game that could have released along side Terminator 2 back in the early 90s, albeit with nicer graphics.
