Prey (2017) - PC (Epic)
Completed 8th May 2026
When Prey (2017) was first announced I was massively disappointed as it has nothing to do with the game of the same name that was released in 2006.
While 2006 Prey was not an amazing game, it was a very memorable and fun game to play - you played as a Native American that finds himself battling against aliens that have been abducting people. The game is silly fun that messes with portals and perspectives.
The Introduction to Prey 2006
For many years there was talk about Prey receiving a sequel, but it was eventually cancelled. So, when Prey 2017 was released and it appeared to have no connections to the original Prey (it was not even set in the same universe as far as I understand) I was very disappointed.

I remember playing the demo of Prey 2017 on the PlayStation 4 and it did seem interesting, it felt a lot more like playing an Immersive Sim System Shock type of game than the horror First Person Shooter that the 2006 game was.
For whatever reason I did not buy the game, but 7 or 8 years later I saw that for a week the game was free to claim on the Epic Store and so I decided to add the game to my digital library.
Prey 2017 plays incredibly and it feels great to be able to roam around the environments figuring out how to pass certain areas in the game - there is a great freedom of choice to play the way you want to play. I just wish the company that owns the name did not call this game Prey as it really is a new IP and a different genre than the original Prey - the only think they really have in common is that they are both presented in first person.
