Amnesia: The Bunker
Retired 10th May
A few months ago I played a demo of the newest Amnesia game and it certainly gained my interest and I added the game to my wishlist with the intention of buying the game.
Well, not too long ago the game was listed for free on the Epic store so I claimed the game whilst it was free.
The first game, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is one of my favourite games ever, but every time I have played one of the sequels I have been disappointed.
The first sequel, A Machine for Pigs, never grabbed me in the same way the original did. The next Amnesia game, called Amnesia Rebirth, started interestingly enough, but after a while it felt rather dull as I did not feel like I was in any danger. I played Amnesia: Rebirth not long before The Bunker - some thoughts can be found here.
I investigated what people's general thoughts were on the Amnesia series and I concluded that many love the first and like Rebirth the least. I saw that a number of people stated that the Bunker was the next best game to the very first one.
So, I began to play Amnesia: The Bunker with the hope that finally I would love an Amnesia title as much as I like the first game, because of course there seems to be a consensus that The Bunker has a great horror atmosphere.
Unfortunately, after trying I could just not bring myself to enjoy The Bunker. Sure, I never felt too safe like I did with Rebirth, but I feel like Rebirth and The Dark Descent had better stories to tell.
The environment of The Bunker, from what I played, felt rather dull - The original Amnesia game was set in castle during the 1800s and it was enjoyable to investigate the interesting architecture of each room, whereas The Bunker just felt really bland.
For the above reasons I have decided to retire Amnesia: The Bunker.
It feels like any Amnesia games that have been released after The Dark Descent cannot come close to the masterpiece of the original.
