Thief (2014)
Retired 10th May 2026
I own the first two Thief games on GOG and I have a physical copy of the third game for the original Xbox.
I played a demo of the Thief rebooted game many years ago and I somewhat enjoyed my brief time with the game. I remember many hardcore Thief fans were disappointed with the direction of the title.
I saw that the 2014 rebooted Thief game was free on GOG for a time, so I thought that I would claim the game while it was offered for free.
Despite owning the previous 3 Thief games I am not going to pretend that I am a hardcore Thief fan, but I do enjoy some stealth games such as the Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell franchises, so I thought it was worth at least giving the game a chance considering that I was able to try it for free.
After playing the game for a little bit I decided to retire the game. Thief did not feel offensively bad, but it also felt rather bland, especially after having just played an amazing game called Prey (2017).
I am glad I spent a bit of time with the game - but I have a few other games in my 'games I claimed for free' backlog that I am more excited to play.
At the time of writing I only have a few games I have claimed for free left unplayed and those games are: Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Saint's Row 2, 3 and the DLC for 4.
Essentially, out of the above games only 1 of them are titles that I want to play soon. System Shock 2 and the Saint's Row games can wait for now as I would like to buy the remake of System Shock 1 and the first Saint's Row title before playing the rest. I played Saint's Row 4 on the PlayStation 4 a few years ago, so I do not need to play it before starting the DLC.
