Latest Playthrough - 2026: A Plague Tale Requiem

A Plague Tale Requiem - PS5

Completed 13th July 2026

I played and enjoyed the original A Plague Tale (or as I like to call it 'The Floor is Rats") game and highly enjoyed my time. I played the original game on PC as it was featured as a Free to Claim title in 2022.

I wrote brief thoughts about the original on the How Long to Beat website:

"Another game that was offered for free on Epic. I had heard good things about the title and boy I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It is not the most challenging game, but it had a compelling narrative that kept me coming back to finish the story. Looking forward to playing the sequel."

The Sequel, Requiem, I find to be a rather conflicting sequel - on one hand it has very enjoyable stealth and rat avoiding moments like the first and the budget seems like it was higher for the sequel, but there are some frustrating moments that I felt were out of place compared to the original game.

I had fun in this game, like the first, hiding from guards and avoiding rats with the use of fire. but it had moments where it felt like it wanted to be an Uncharted game and some forced action parts were I felt it opposed the stealth design of the game.

In many ways Requiem is a better game than the original, but the action elements can feel out of place where I felt that the original did not have this problem and as a result these sections felt like the game was dragged down in certain areas.

I also enjoyed the way that upgrade worked - rather than choosing certain abilities from a skill tree the three main skills would level up and unlock skills depending on how you played the game - if you hid from guards a lot then your stealth skills would increase or if you tried to attack guards a lot, then your aggressive skills would increase.

Overall I very much enjoyed my experience, but some of the forced action sequences lessened my fun with the game - Requiem, for me, is best when creeping around guards or trying to avoid the rats through environmental puzzle solving.
