Latest Playthrough 2026 - Tormented Souls 2

Tormented Souls 2 - PC (GOG)

Completed 20th October 2026

I loved the original Tormented Souls and I really wanted to purchase the physical version of the sequel on the PlayStation 5 to add to my collection, however, according to Does it Play it requires a download to fully complete the game.

The full game is actually on the disc, but, Does It Play reports that the pre-patched version contains many different glitches and there is a game breaking bug that prevented game completion - thus making the the 1.0 disc version, essentially a broken product.

It was because of these issues that I decided to buy the game on GOG digitally. I have always thought that buying a game on GOG was the next best alternative to buying a game physically as GOG offers offline installers, so you actually own the files to play the game.

The first Tormented Souls took me around 10 hours to complete and the sequel took me around 20 hours. Whereas, as I said in my summary of the original game that it felt like Resi Evil Remake with a sprinkling of Silent Hill, the Tormented Souls II felt like similar to the original RE 3 with a mixture of the first Silent Hill that was released on the PlayStation 1.

A complaint I had about the original game was that I found the saving to be too strict - there were no difficulty options and you would only receive on save tape per save room. I had trouble early on in the first game as I thought that the game could have been a little more generous with the number of save tapes by maybe adding 2 or 3 save items in each save room. Well TS II improved upon this by having different difficulty options and more save items in each save room and even in non save rooms.

While I enjoyed TS II overall I think I chose the wrong difficulty setting and should have gone with the normal difficulty setting. I decided to go with the easy difficulty because the game stated that there were more save tapes in the save rooms and the game has auto saving when you enter a room. At first, I did hesitate selecting easy mode as the only problem I had with the original game was that there were not enough saving tapes rather than difficulty I had with enemies.

I thought I had selected the wrong difficulty because I found that I was receiving an abundance of save tapes as well as having auto save, but my experience with the first half of the first game was the main reason I choose the easy option. Just for comparison sake when I was at the end of the original game I had around 2 - 3 save tapes left, while with TS II I had over 30 tapes left! If I had know that more save tapes were available as pick ups outside the save rooms I would probably have chosen the normal difficulty. Oh, well - if I ever want to playthrough the game in the future I will choose the normal option.

I cannot quite decide where TS II is a better game than the first game. I was very surprised just how much I enjoyed the original game, it really gave me flashbacks to playing Resident Evil 1 remake. On the other hand TS II really does excel in many areas and mechanically improves on the original and when the second game opened up it felt more like the original RE 3 and I had fun exploring the city areas. I like how the first game was in a more confined area and I found at times I felt rather disappointed with more open areas in TS II, but arriving at more confined areas I was beginning to have fun again. It may just be that I am less surprised with TS II, as the first TS was a new experience for me and TS II I know what to expect having played the first game.

Anyway, I enjoyed my time with the game and I am glad to have spent with it. I wonder whether there will be a TS III?
